Endocrine Observatory

A sourced account of endocrine disease, specialist distribution and access to advanced care across Southern California.

The Observatory is in its design phase. No data are published yet.

Questions it will address

  • How does the burden of diabetes, obesity and other endocrine disease vary across the five counties?
  • Where are endocrine specialists and advanced services located, relative to the populations they serve?
  • How far do patients travel for specialized endocrine diagnostics and procedures?

Data standards

  • Every figure cites a traceable source with its date.
  • Every indicator is defined, including its denominator and geography.
  • Measured data, estimates and projections are labelled as such.
  • Geographic variation is not presented as evidence of causation.
  • Missing data are shown as missing.

Candidate data sources

Under evaluation: the California Health Interview Survey, CDC PLACES and BRFSS, California Department of Health Care Access and Information datasets, the American Community Survey, and national provider registries.
